Insurance Reimbursement

Light therapy is a relatively new treatment in medicine, and health insurance companies may not recognize that light therapy is an accepted treatment for SAD.

Many of our patients have successfully sought reimbursement for their light devices by applying for extended health benefits from their health insurance companies. For example, Aetna U.S. Healthcare covers the cost of light therapy.

Your doctor may be able to help by sending a letter on your behalf to the company.

Here is a sample insurance reimbursement letter that we use in our SAD Clinic. It is in MS Word format so you can revise it for your own use. Please feel free to bring it to the attention of your doctor if you are applying for reimbursement of light devices.
