The UBC Hospital SAD Clinic
and Research Program

The SAD Clinic is located in the Mood Disorders Centre at the UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Dr. Edwin Tam manages the clinic, and Dr. Raymond Lam is also on staff.

We offer consultations to patients on referral by physicians (family physicians or psychiatrists). For more information on how to refer, please check on the UBC Hospital Mood Disorders Centre site.

We also conduct a number of research studies on the causes and treatments for SAD. All of our studies are approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Board of the University of BC. Current studies include:

● New light devices for SAD, evaluating the Litebook, an LED device
(with Dr. Paul Desan, Yale University).

● Genetic studies in SAD, examining specific dopamine and serotonin genes
(with Dr. Robert Levitan, University of Toronto)

● Brain-imaging in SAD, using functional magnetic resonance imaging
(with Dr. Mario Liotti, Simon Fraser University).

● Light therapy and negative ion therapy, combined with antidepressant
    medication, for NON-SEASONAL depression.

If you live in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, North Shore, Surrey), you can find out more about volunteering for these studies by calling us at 604-822-7512 or by email.
